The farmhouse contains two separate homes where you will find James and Fraser and their respective families. James and Fraser are cousins and Fraser's grandfather started farming Whalesborough in 1966.
There is a very friendly atmosphere on the farm. Whalesborough is one of those special places you'll want to keep as your secret Cornwall hideaway to share with family and friends.

Play Area

If you just want to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the farm the children can be kept occupied in the specially designed play area. Set in the leafy shade of fruit trees (and next to another children's favourite -pets corner) the play area
offers a safe and fun environment for your children to play, explore and make friends. There are swings, a slide, a wendy house, tree house, a rope-slide, crawling tubes and log balancing.

Pets Corner

Although a perennial favourite with children, no one is too old to visit our pet's corner. Whether you're an urbanite or a country bumpkin you'll love meeting our friendly pigs and chickens. Sited next to the children's play area the area is big enough to allow the animals free range, so come and scratch the pigs' back and watch as they forage and then relax in the sun.
The animals will always be pleased to see you especially if you have bread crusts - you may also watch feeding time and help collect the eggs.

Swimming Pool

Open from May to September. The heated outdoor pool has changing facilities and a shower.

This is a concrete and hardcore road which stretches from the farm to the coast path overlooking Widemouth Bay and allowing incredible views across the farm in all directions.

Shared Garden

Open grassy area for communal BBQ or for just relaxing on the sun loungers with a book and a glass of wine.

Woodland

This is a well established oak woodland. Come in the spring and it will be full of bluebells and wild garlic making quite a picture.

Tearooms and Restaurant

The tearooms and bistro restaurant are set at the bottom of the private lane going up to the cottages. They are set overlooking the lake and are open all year round to the public as well as our visitors. The restaurant is fully licensed and specialises in locally produced meat and vegetables.

Wildlife Centre

Instead of keeping animals for you to look at James and Fraser have invested in some pretty amazing interactive technology which will keep children and adults busy for hours! There are games, quizzes, videos, photos and more ...

Farm Walk

A walk through newly established mixed woodland and open fields that starts at the tearoom and restaurant car park and stretches all the way to the beach at Widemouth.

Private Lane

Whalesborough has a completely secluded setting on its own hill surrounded by 500 acres of arable farmland. The cottages are found at the top of a long private lane which passes next to the lake and through a wooded area.

Fishing Lake

A recently stocked lake brim full of carp and tench set beside our lovely tearooms and restaurant.

Bude Canal

A lovely metre wide ribbon of tarmac following the edge of the canal down through the nature reserves to Bude about 2.5 miles each way.

Hele Valley Trail

A lovely walk across the valley from Whalesborough. Best finished with a tasty lunch and a pint of something local at the Buller's Arms in Marhamchurch village.

Cycle Path

There are two routes to Bude from Whalesborough - a walking trail using the towpath alongside the canal and a multi-use walking/cycle trail which follows the old railway line from Bude to Helebridge. Both paths are lovely and safe and relaxing - passing down through the nature reserves to Bude.

Crooklets Beach

Crooklets lies just north of Summerleaze but they become one at low tide. Lovely golden sand. Rock pools galore. There is a pretty promenade and a lovely cafe with tables looking out at the sea.
There is a big car park, plus toilets, shops etc. There is even a skate park here. Lifeguards in the summer.

Summerleaze Beach

The main beach at Bude. Dunes on one side and the lovely Bude canal/harbour on the other. The beach also has a lovely sea pool which is also lifeguarded during the summer. One of my favourite restaurants is Life's A Beach which looks out over the sands. Superb seafood restaurant at night. Great lunch food too.
Lifeguards in the summer. Lots of parking, toilets etc. Stroll up into the town for a bit of shopping.

Surfing: Often works at mid-high when elsewhere is blown out due to protection from harbour. Left off Barrel Rock at low tide. Right breaks at mid-high. Watch the rips at low tide.

The Castle

Formerly the home of Victorian inventor Sir Goldsworthy Gurney, The Castle is now a heritage centre with exhibition galleries, an archive with research facilities, an education room, shop and restaurant with breathtaking views to the breakwater, Chapel Rock and over Summerleaze Beach to the sea beyond.
There are exhibitions on Bude and the surrounding area, shipwrecks and on 'Cornwall's forgotten genius' - Sir Goldsworthy himself and his many inventions. As well as this pioneering building (which he constructed on sand) he invented the world's first mechanised vehicle to travel over distance at sustained speed. He also discovered limelight.

Falcon Hotel Restaurant

The Falcon Hotel is the oldest coaching house in North Cornwall. Overlooking the Bude Canal and with its beautiful walled gardens, the Hotel has one of the finest settings in Cornwall. The elegant Restaurant is fully air-conditioned and specialises in using the freshest of local produce.
These include tender Cornish lamb, locally caught seafood and award winning local cheeses. The Coachman's Bar with it's warm and informal atmosphere is the perfect place to relax at the end of the day. The extensive bar menu and the daily specials board are popular with both locals and visitors.

Brendon Arms

Overlooking Bude's inner harbour, The Brendon Arms proudly boasts that it provides 'The Warmest Welcome in the West'. The garden is spacious so many can enjoy eating and drinking on the lawn with a view of the water. The Brendon Arms is a Free House and stocks a range of real ales from the West Country and national brewers renowned
for their excellence and accredited by the Cask Marque. The bars are cosy in winter and air-conditioned in summer and the kitchens serve an excellent range of traditional pub food with a daily special menu including locally caught seafood and quality meat from local farmers.

Elements

High on the cliffs between Bude and Widemouth Bay, Elements is one of North Cornwall's finest bistros and boutique hotels. They have just undergone a huge re-design of the ground floor and terraces to create 'the most gorgeous venue in North Cornwall' - a trendy new space where people can eat, drink, relax, meet friends and celebrate.
The uber cool interior was designed by Zed & Co., there is an Italian menu served every day, perfect coffees and cakes, superb staff, and a fantastic view of the ocean.

Farm Path

This footpath leads off the towpath and takes you across to the cliff path at Upton creating a circular walk from Bude or Marhamchurch.

Cycle Path

The cycling in and around the farm is made all the easier with easy access to the National Cycle Network which links you locally to Bude in the north and Camelford to the south. Most of the routes on the network take you down quiet country roads that link the picturesque Cornish countryside with the dramatic coastline so there's truly something for everyone.
There are also several traffic-free routes nearby, the most popular being the Camel Trail which links Bodmin to Padstow on the route of the old railway line.

Widemouth Beach

Widemouth Bay is actually made up of two beaches, the left hand side generally being called Black Rock and right being called North Beach. The beaches together add up to a mile of sand which is joined together at all but high tide. The beaches are generally nice and safe in the summer and very popular with learner surfers as well as swimmers and bodyboarders.
Both beaches are lifeguarded during the summer. The right hand side has plenty of rockpools at mid-low tides and lovely warm sandpools at mid tide. There is a cafe and plenty of toilets and parking - although you can walk down here from Whalesborough quite easily.

Bay View Inn

The friendly, family run hotel and award winning freehouse inn is superbly located overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The unrivalled, far reaching views of Widemouth Bay and its glorious sandy beaches and rolling surf will take your breath away as you gaze out to sea from the superb Beach Hut restaurant.
Enjoy the fabulous array of local produce used to create the menu. Each dish is cooked to perfection by their award winning team and can be served to you al fresco on the fabulous deck overlooking the bay, in the atmospheric bar or in the light and airy restaurant.

Beach Cafe

Situated next to the main car park at Widemouth Bay, The Beach Café offers visitors all the usual refreshments including cold drinks and ice creams. Only a stones throw from the beach itself, the café is an essential stop-off for weary surfers and sand-covered children alike.
Opening hours are seasonal so don't forget to pack a thermos if you're a hardened winter surfer!

Black Rock Beach

Black Rock is a mixture of large rock outcrops and golden sands. At mid-low tide you can discover the most amazing sealife in the myriad of pools created by the retreating tide. This beach is dog friendly throughout the year.
Surfing: Like Widemouth next door this beach has a mixture of sandbar and reef breaks. How good depends on where the bars are on that day.

Beach Cafe

I love this cafe - good food and amazing icecreams. The style of the place has been upgraded recently and really makes a nice place to escape from the sun for lunch.

Manor Pub & Restaurant

The Widemouth Manor Hotel is set within its own gardens and stands high up near the cliffs that overlook Widemouth Bay. The impressive manor has been extensively refurbished in 2010 and now offers high standards of dining and hospitality.
The hotel is stylishly decorated in cool shades of blue, reflecting its close proximity to the beach and offers fine dining in the elegant main restaurant which has its own bar. A more relaxed atmosphere can be enjoyed in the sports bar where you can watch live sport whilst enjoying a drink.

Coast Path

The South West Coast Path links Minehead to Poole but is just as good for short walks and gentle strolls as it is for long-distance walking. The section that passes the farm leads to Bude in the north and Widemouth to the south.
Beyond Widemouth the path climbs up to the cliff tops and on to some of the most spectacular coastline in the country with breathtaking views to Tintagel and beyond. To Crackington Haven and back offers a challenging but exhilarating day trip for the fit and adventurous.

Golf Course

Bude & North Cornwall Golf Club, surrounded by the town and the sea, is a challenging 18 hole links course established in 1891. It is located right in the centre of Bude.
Excellent drainage enables the course to be playable throughout the year off regular tees and greens, making it one of Cornwall's finest golf courses. Visitors are made welcome at the club which is within walking distance of the town centre, beaches, canal and coastal path. The excellent bar and restaurant are open all year.

Bude Town Centre

Bude is an unspoilt family friendly resort town set on and around a lovely canal which ends on Summerleaze beach and stretches all the way to Whalesborough.
The town is full of quaint shops, tasty restaurants and cafes. It has a good measure of night life too. Plenty of surf hire shops. Boat hire. Two lovely safe beaches.
