Long Down
A Five Star Gold cottage for four on a 428-acre Cornish estate
Original beams, solid oak doors, and a private hot tub in a west-facing garden made for long evenings
Long Down is an open-plan barn conversion with a kitchen, dining and living space dressed in gloss units and granite worktops, framed by original beams and solid oak doors throughout. A wood burner anchors the sitting area; a Smart TV and free superfast WiFi are on hand when the weather turns. Step outside and the private hot tub and sun-drenched communal front lawn, with far-reaching countryside views, draw you back out again. Guests also enjoy full access to the W Club spa, heated indoor pool and a seasonal outdoor pool, and The Weir Restaurant.
The space
Long Down was once a calf barn; today it is a thoughtfully converted single-storey retreat for four, retaining the character of the original building — exposed beams overhead, solid oak doors throughout — while delivering the comforts you expect from Five Star Gold. The open-plan kitchen, dining and living space is fitted with gloss units and granite worktops and flows naturally out to the west-facing private garden, where the hot tub sits. A wood burner keeps things cosy when the Atlantic wind picks up. A Smart TV and superfast WiFi complete the picture.
All guests at Whalesborough have complimentary access to the W Club: an indoor pool held at 29–30°C, a seasonal outdoor pool, sauna, steam room, and a fully equipped Technogym gym. The Weir Restaurant serves breakfast and lunch using produce from the working estate. Miles of private trails wind across the 428 acres, and Long Down is fully dog-friendly — up to two dogs at no extra charge — so the whole family can make the most of the estate grounds.
The estate & the coast
Whalesborough is a 428-acre working estate on the North Cornwall coast, a few minutes from the surf town of Bude and the wide golden sands of Widemouth Bay. Private trails run from the cottage door across the estate and down toward the sea, and the South West Coast Path is close in both directions — this is the quieter, less-trodden coast: real Cornwall, without the August queues.
At the heart of the estate, the W Club spa, indoor pool and a seasonal outdoor pool and The Weir Restaurant are all yours to enjoy. Bude has everything you need — proper coffee, good pubs and a chip shop or two worth the walk — while Tintagel, Boscastle and Padstow are all an easy drive when you fancy a day out.
