Woody Platt
A Five Star Gold barn conversion for four in the original Whalesborough milking parlour
A double-storey barn with centuries of character and views straight to the Cornish horizon
Woody Platt occupies part of the original Whalesborough milking parlour, graded Five Star Gold by Visit Britain. The open-plan living and dining area is one of the finest on the resort — exposed beams, solid oak doors, two large sofas and an armchair, with French doors opening directly onto the west-facing enclosed garden. Both bedrooms carry the same crafted detail. Resort guests enjoy full W Club spa and pool access, and The Weir Restaurant is just a short stroll away across the estate.
Set across two storeys, Woody Platt has the proportions of a proper barn and the finish of a five-star retreat. The open-plan living and dining area is one of the best on the resort: exposed beams overhead, solid oak doors throughout, two generous sofas and an armchair arranged around the room, with countryside views through large windows and French doors that lead directly out to the west-facing enclosed garden. The master bedroom offers a king bed with ensuite bathroom; the second bedroom has twin beds and an ensuite shower room — both dressed with the same beam ceilings and oak detailing that run through every corner of the cottage.
All Whalesborough guests have full access to the W Club — the resort’s spa and leisure facility. Inside: an indoor pool held at 29–30 °C, sauna, steam room and a fully equipped Technogym gym. The outdoor pool (26 °C, open seasonally) catches the afternoon sun on the estate’s south-facing terrace. The Weir Restaurant is just a short walk across the grounds, serving seasonal menus rooted in the estate’s own produce. Dogs are welcome — Woody Platt’s west garden is fully enclosed, and the estate’s private trails run from the cottage door.
Whalesborough is a 428-acre working estate on the North Cornwall coast, a few minutes from the surf town of Bude and the wide golden sands of Widemouth Bay. Private trails run from the cottage door across the estate and down toward the sea, and the South West Coast Path is close in both directions — this is the quieter, less-trodden coast: real Cornwall, without the August queues.
At the heart of the estate, the W Club spa, indoor pool and a seasonal outdoor pool and The Weir Restaurant are all yours to enjoy. Bude has everything you need — proper coffee, good pubs and a chip shop or two worth the walk — while Tintagel, Boscastle and Padstow are all an easy drive when you fancy a day out.
