On arrival at the cottages, parking is on a flat concrete surface with a provision of an unloading bay with a tarmac path ( no steps) leading to each cottage. The cottages are situated on a gentle slope with access to the games barn and communal areas via flat hard surfaces with no steps. Jacks House, Barley Park, Sandparks and Longdown are all accessible from the car park area without any steps except a small door frame threshold about 1inch high. Westcotts, Middle Hill and Woodyplatt all have one step in front of the front door approximately 6 inches high again with a small door frame threshold of 1 inch high as you enter the property. New build cottages have their own parking area with level tarmac paths leading to the front doors. All doors are wide enough for wheelchair access.
Around and about
Whalesborough Cottages are uniquely positioned at the axis of many footpaths and cycle paths between the Bude Canal and the coast at Widemouth Bay, all of which are accessible without having to go on any main roads. For the less able a concrete path leads from the cottages all the way through our land to the coast looking over Widemouth Bay. From here you can access the coastal path (quite rough and variable surface ) and also a viewing point with a flat gravelled path giving you fantastic views down the coast of Cornwall to Pentire Point. On the other side of Whalesborough and leading directly off the entrance lane ( concrete surface ) is the start of the newly regenenerated Bude Canal and Towpath which affords a 2 mile walk or cycle ride into Bude. The Towpath is virtually flat the whole way apart from one or two minor slopes by the lock gates. The path is a tarmac surface and finishes at the Sea lock in Bude with an abundance of cafes and craft shops. Longdown is accessed via a flat path to the front door. Once inside the open plan kitchen/diner/ lounge is all on one level with the floors being tiled. From this area you can access the enclosed patio/lawn area via some french doors (small wooden threshold). The patio area is flat and constructed of a hard slate slab.Back inside the cottage 2 bedrooms can be found again all on the same level. Bedroom 1 is a large bedroom with ensuite bathroom (no disability aids ). Bedroom 2 is a twin bedroom with a walk in shower ensuite.Both bedrooms are carpeted.
Woodypatt, a two storey property, is accessed by a flat tarmac path with a 6 inch step up to the front door with a small wood threshold (1 inch high) as you enter the cottage. The lounge /diner is level with a downstairs toilet and separate lean to kitchen. All first floor floors are tiled. French doors (small wooden threshold 1 inch high) lead out into the enclosed patio/lawn area which is flat. From here you can access a large area of flat grassland through the back garden gate. Upstairs via a stairway with handrail (10 steps) are two bedrooms. The master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom (no rails) and the twin bedroom has an ensuite shower room with a walk in shower,(small step into it). All stairs and bedrooms are carpeted. All doorways and openings are wheelchair friendly.
Middle Hill is a two storey property. Access is via a flat tarmac path with a 6 inch step to the front door (small wooden threshold 1 inch high ). On entering the property you come into the large lounge/diner with downstairs toilet. Running off one side and on the same level is a galley kitchen with access via the back door (small wood threshold ) to the enclosed patio/garden area. Barley park is a single storey cottage. Access is via a tarmac path to the front door (small wood threshold 1 inch high ). On entering the cottage you come into the kitchen/lounge/dining area with tiled floors. Access to the enclosed patio/lawn area is via French doors (small wooden threshold). From here you can access a large lawned area via a garden gate and 4 steps made from railway sleepers. On the same level there is a bathroom with jacuzzi corner bath, separate shower, toilet and basin. Via a small corridor you reach the large bedroom with super king bed and carpeted flooring. Access from the bedroom through French doors (small wooden threshold ) to a small level patio with iron railings. All doorways and openings are wheelchair friendly and the bed can be separated to form twins if necessary.
Sandparks is a two storey property. Access is directly from the parking area with small step down ( 4 inches) onto front patio with small step ( 4 inches) back up into porch and front door. On entering the property through the front door (small 1 inch high wooden threshold ), you come into a large kitchen/lounge/dining area. There is a downstairs toilet, all floors are tiled. Access via the back door into the enclosed patio/lawn area (small wooden threshold).You can access the communal lawn and seating area via a gate on the patio, small grass slope. Upstairs via a carpeted stairway ( no rail,10 steps ) to two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a ensuite bathroom (no rails).Head height restriction while walking around bed to ensuite for people more than 5 feet 8 inches tall due to wooden beams. Twin bedroom has separate shower room with walk in shower, small step into shower. Both bedrooms are carpeted. All doorways comply with disable access regulations.

Beachcombers, Warren and Little Main
These new build Cottages are single storey semi-detached properties built to current building regulation standards. Access from the car parking area or unloading bay is by a level tarmac path. On entering the properties via the front door (no threshold) there is a large open plan kitchen/diner/lounge area with tiled floor. Two bedrooms, both with carpet flooring, one with ensuite shower cubicle, small step into shower and one with bath with shower over, both ensuites have tiled floors. All doorways and corridors comply with up to date disable access requirements. Bifold/French doors to outside patio, grass area with 2 steps (4 inches high into garden area from house).

Indoor pool & Spa
Indoor pool is approached from the car park by a tarmac path with slight elevation as you near the building. Large front access door into reception area. Level non slip tiled access into changing rooms with one being a disabled changing facility with large shower area, lockers and hand rails for toilet with panic alarm cord. Level access into pool hall (non slip tiles) with seating and viewing area. Pool depth of 1.3m all over with cushioned floor. Access into the pool is via 6 steps (6 inches each). Sauna and Steam room have level access through wide door. Jacuzzi has 2 steps (6 inches each) up and then 3 steps (6 inches) down. Large patio doors( 1 inch threshold) with access to paved outdoor seating area. To access treatment rooms upstairs from reception there are 16 steps with stainless steel handrail. Upstairs there are 3 treatment rooms, a relaxation room and toilet/changing room, all with karndean vinyl flooring. Indoor pool built in 2014 to building regulation standards for disabled access and inclusivity.
Outdoor swimming pool and other communal areas
The outdoor swimming pool is accessed by a hard path of varying materials. There are no steps until you enter the pool itself where there are two steps 6 inches high each. Once in the pool area there is a level surround with access to the pool by 5 steps built into the side. The pool is 15m x 8m and from 1m deep in the shallow end to 1.5m in the deep end. Access into the pool is via 7 corner steps. There is also access to a changing room, toilet and shower (no steps). Access around the whole site and down to the tearooms at the bottom of the lane, although slightly hilly, is ideal for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and pushchairs. A Mobility Scooter can be hired from our Café and we are quite happy to take delivery and store items from the Red Cross where you can hire disability equipment such as wheelchairs and shower seats.
