Dog on the Cornish coast at sunset

Exploring Cornwall

Days out
with your dog

North Cornwall is one of the most dog-friendly corners of England. Quiet beaches that welcome dogs year-round, ancient moorland, dramatic coastal paths and warm pubs waiting at the end of every walk.

Dog-friendly beaches

Welcome all year round

Unlike many Cornish beaches that impose seasonal dog bans, these stretches of coastline welcome dogs throughout the year — no restrictions, no compromise.

Bude Beach Dog Walk — North Cornwall
Less than 10 min

Black Rock Beach

Rocky outcrops, surf waves and deep rock pools make this a wonderful place for dogs to explore. The varied terrain keeps even the most restless dogs entertained, and the surf adds plenty of excitement.

Northcott Mouth Beach

An untouched, naturally beautiful stretch of sand and rocky outcrops set within natural wildlife surroundings. Less heavily visited than the main Bude beaches — ideal for dogs who like space to run and sniff in peace.

Millook Haven Beach

A hidden gem — dramatic cliffs, large pebbles and a very quiet atmosphere owing to limited parking and no facilities. Usually peaceful even in peak season. The remoteness makes it feel truly special.

Walking routes

South West Coast Path

The 630-mile South West Coast Path runs along the full length of England's south-west peninsula — and Whalesborough sits just a couple of miles from one of its finest stretches. Dogs are welcome on the path throughout.

Head south from Bude and you'll pass through some of the most dramatic coastline in England — hidden beaches, plunging cliffs and quiet coves tucked between headlands. Recommended starting points include Millook, Dizzard, Crackington Haven and the beautiful harbour village of Boscastle.

You can walk as little or as much as you like — return along the same path or arrange a pick-up from a nearby village.

Wider afield

Bodmin Moor

An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and one of the most rewarding places in Cornwall to walk a dog. Ancient granite tors, deep valleys, twisted oak woodland and wide open moorland — it feels unchanged for centuries.

The moor supports rare plants, butterflies, otters along its river valleys and a remarkable variety of prehistoric sites. Dogs thrive here — off-lead across much of the open land, with endless scents and terrain to explore.

After the walk

Dog-friendly pubs nearby

Every good walk deserves a good pub. These local favourites all welcome dogs — so you can warm up, eat well and not have to leave your companion outside.

The Bay View Inn

A well-loved local with great views and a warm welcome for dogs and their owners. A popular stop after a coastal walk.

The Brendon Arms

A traditional Bude pub with a relaxed atmosphere and genuine dog-friendliness. Good food, real ales and dogs most welcome.

The Coachman's Bar & Grill

Reliable food and a welcoming atmosphere for the four-legged contingent. Ideal for a post-walk meal before the drive back to the resort.
